If I build it, they will come
In case you haven’t noticed, it isn’t 2006 anymore. There’s too much noise competing for eyeballs on every social network. You can’t just open accounts on every network and expect them to grow. Even agave won’t grow if you don’t maintain it. It’s the same with social media, your following won’t grow if you don’t feed, water, and love it regularly. You need to know what, when, and how to post to your networks to make them engaging and grow your brand’s fan base.
I need to prime the pump with purchased followers then real people will join in
This kills your brand before you even get started! Thousands of followers and no engagement goes against you in the Facebook, Instagram & Twitter algorithms. The ratio of engagement to followers tells them that you aren’t worth seeing in feeds. If you only have 2 followers and 1 engages with every post, you’ve got 50% engagement – and that gets you in front of eyeballs all day.
I don’t need words, just hashtags
But what the hell are you saying?! Sure, hashtags are helpful, but if all you post is a handful of hashtags with no real message or caption, you’ll look like you’re speaking in tongues and there’s no way your followers can engage with that. Nobody has a hasgtag conversation unless they’re Justin Timberlake & Jimmy Fallon at summer camp.
My followers don’t need a buy button, they’ll Google for a retailer
You’re giving consumers too much credit. If they can’t find it easily, they’ll buy what they can find. Make it easy on your fans and use the Facebook “Shop Now” button to link them directly with an online retailer that stocks your brand. No online retailer yet? Use the Facebook “Learn More” button to show them where they can find your brand.
A Facebook Group is more engaging than a Page
Yes, if you just want to talk to your friends, but the whole point is to find more consumers. Save the group for your inner circle. The general public will not find your group when they do a search for your brand page. If you do all your posting on a group where everybody already knows your brand, then how will you attract new consumers? The whole point is to grow! If you go to a club and just hang out with your friends, then how can you expect everyone in the club to know how awesome you are?
You can’t be expected to know all these things. Social media isn’t your specialty – your agave spirit is your specialty – as it should be. Social media and making the connections between brands and consumers is OUR specialty. It is all we do, every day, all year long, and we’ve been doing it for 19 years.
It isn’t as difficult as it seems when you outsource it to the right team.
