Tequila Distilleries and Brands (NOM List 26 May 2014)

distilleries

More interesting goings-on at the CRT lately!

When the lists were released on the 26th, somebody uploaded the wrong file to the CRT website.  Apparently, it went unnoticed by CRT desk jockeys for a week before they fixed it.  But they did fix it.

And then the next day, the released a whole new NOM List.

That’s why you’ll be seeing a rapid fire release of 2 Tequila Aficionado NOM Lists today.

tequila distilleriesTequila Distilleries & Brands Updated

Our updated list of tequila distilleries and brands, the “Nom List”, as of 26 May 2014, is now available for download in both PDF and Excel formats. Click on any of the underlined items within the list to be taken directly to our reviews, articles, tasting notes and features on each tequila brand.

Tequila Brands Old & New

Each of our NOM Lists contains the names and information of brands that have previously appeared on NOM lists in the past but have since been dropped by the CRT. Pinpointing your treasure bottles has never been easier! Please understand that this list is not a comprehensive list of every tequila brand ever made. We make every effort to be sure it is as accurate as possible from the time we at Tequila Aficionado Media began publishing our lists in 2013.

Founder’s Feature: Interview with Blair Salisbury of El Cholo Restaurants

In 1922, Alejandro Borquez pushed back from the dinner table and said to his beautiful young bride, Rosa,”You are such a good cook we should open up a restaurant”

-  and they did.

The rest is history.

green corn tamales, el cholo

Absolutely delicious. We LOVE this place!!! The portions are perfect. They do not overwhelm you with food. The salsa and chips are always fresh, and the enchiladas are my favorite. The strawberry margaritas are to die for.

~~

The food was extremely well priced and very tasty. The servings were also huge and the staff were extremely friendly. You even get a free serve of fresh, hot corn chips with hot and mild salsa, delivered to your table as soon as you sit down.

I had combination #1 (beef taco and cheese enchilada with cheese). Very nice but the highlight was the Tortilla soup, something I have never had before, simply awesome. Very tasty indeed.

If I lived here I’d be going here all the time. We’ll worth it!

~~

El Cholo has the same effect on me as those timepiece films like “Stand By Me” or “Huckleberry Finn”- it is a walk into the old way of doing things, tried and true, from a humbler time. Yet, in its heyday, I’ll bet that El Cholo really stood out as something special. It was a tribute to Mexican cuisine in the 1920s, and it’s lasting power is proven when you see how popular it remains today.

Sipping off the Cuff: Ixa Organic Silver Tequila

Alexander Perez and Mike Morales taste and review Ixa Organic Silver Tequila.

Ixa Tequila

The ancient Maya believed in magic water and so do we. We make IXÁ with fully matured agave plants and traditional techniques which are becoming increasingly rare — like slow, clay oven steaming, and fermenting & distilling with agave fibers. All this to produce a tequila worthy of the gods.

Profile: Rich, complex and with the softest finish, IXÁ captures all aspects of the agave plant in harmony.

On April 29, 2014, Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers unleashed their seventh studio album, The Independent.  The title fits these musical mavericks like an old pair of faded jeans worn as a statement against oppression on Casual Fridays.   Yet, as Clyne states, “There’s something about our music that celebrates what’s uniting versus what’s dividing.”

Mexican Moonshine, Mexican Moonshine…Let your heart and your cup overflow, under the glow of the moonshine!  May your heart and your cup… Overflow…under the glow of the Moonshine!

Using this “Tequila Logic,” Roger Clyne has managed to do the same with Mexican Moonshine, gently hitching the spirit’s Lowland agave heritage to the wood notes of Kentucky bourbon to create a peacemaker that rightfully belongs in any collector’s arsenal.

New Tequila Aficionado App for Android

Necessity is the Mother of Invention

Mobile browsers don’t always work as quickly as we’d like them to.  With all the trips we make to liquor stores and cross referencing we need to do with the Tequila Aficionado website and Nom List, we knew we could find value in an app.  What we weren’t sure of was whether our readers could benefit from it.

The Android App is Born

So we’ve created an android app (we’re android people) that we continue to build upon to serve our particular needs, but we’d like it to serve your needs as well.  If you choose to give it a try, please feel free to email Lisa@TequilaAficionado.com to tell us how we can improve it for your particular tequila loving needs.

Get our app in the Google Play Store here.

For those of you on iDevices, we’re working on an app for Apple and will launch that soon.
