About the Brands of Promise Awards

The Tequila Aficionado Brands of Promise Awards began in 2013 as our response to a secondary industry that has sprouted up around awards programs in the spirits industry. In a very much pay-to-play world where large sums of money are involved in entering today’s contests and even more is required of winners in licensing fees to use the award logos on marketing, online and point of sale materials, we felt it was time that something change.

What Makes The Brands of Promise Different

We do not charge an entry fee to be considered for these awards, nor do we charge licensing fees for the winners to use the awards seal. You take your award with you as soon as you’ve won it. Winners simply download the high resolution images for their awards by clicking on the thumbnails here at www.TequilaAficionado.com.

We encourage winners to use them on their websites, brochures, social media, shelf talkers, and point of sale materials. We even provide a high resolution QR Code with the award seal on it that links directly to the award presentation. (In case you haven’t noticed, each of our Sipping Off The Cuff reviews receives a QR code that brands are always welcome to use online and in their marketing and packaging materials which links directly to their Sipping Off The Cuff review.)

Are You in the Running for 2016?

If you haven’t sent us your samples yet, what are you waiting for? Every tequila, mezcal, sotol and related product that we receive prior to August 15, 2016 will be considered for the 2016 Tequila Aficionado Brands of Promise Awards. Isn’t it time the world knew about your product? Email Mike@TequilaAficionado.com for instructions on how to send your samples in for review. All it costs is your postage.

Demetrio Blanco is a luxury Tequila from creators at Ekeko Wine and Spirits.

After over 40 years of making many great tequilas, Don Demetrio decided that he wanted to create his own masterpiece; the pinnacle of his work. After fine tuning and perfecting the formula, Don Demetrio passed away. His grandson, inspired by fond memories of spending time in the agave fields with him, felt passionate about continuing the dream by making this incredible spirit available to the world. Demetrio Tequila is pure Mexican spirit.

Demetrio Tequila is made in Amatitan, Jalisco; the birthplace of Tequila. Years ago, a particularly resistant indigenous group lived in this area and crafted tequila, or “vino mezcal” as it was called back then. They continued production of their spirit in spite of the Spanish rule against making any drink that could compete with Spanish brandy. The oldest remains ever found of a tequila distillery are located in Amatitan dating back to the 17th century.

Our process to create this incredible tequila has its roots in a history of love of the land, love of the agave and love of tequila. We cultivate and maintain our own agave fields in order to guarantee the pureness and treatment throughout their growth. Our process has been developed and perfected by three generations over a 60 year span and our spirit is infused with passion, dreams and love.

Tequila Aficionado Media Presents Last Tequila Standing

national tequila day, last tequila standing, tequila aficionado, TV show, reality show

First ever Tequila Reality Show kicks off on National Tequila Day!

For Immediate Release!

In 2011, eighteen tequila start ups had vied to be crowned the top Brand Of Promise(TM) in the world’s first broadcasted Tequila Reality Show.

Tequila Aficionado Media Presents Last Tequila Standing

July, 2015, San Antonio, TX:  Starting July 24, 2015, National Tequila Day, 45 exclusive episodes of Last Tequila Standing will be streamed daily over Tequila Aficionado Media’s website and on-demand over its own YouTube playlist, as well as featured throughout all of its powerful social networks.

“Through the expansion of opportunities on the Web, and Tequila Aficionado

Last Tequila Standing.
Last Tequila Standing.

Media’s own explosive growth, we are proud to present for your enjoyment, Last Tequila Standing,” declared Tequila Aficionado’s CEO, M.A. “Mike” Morales.

Never-before-seen raw footage of some of the tequila industry’s most promising labels will be aired.  Each will relate their start up stories and demonstrate their tasty signature cocktails, too.

Colorful brand owners, master distillers, and top flight brand ambassadors took the stage with their enduring tequilas, many of which are still thriving even in 2015’s more competitive tequila market.

 The Dare

Judging_LTSIn the late summer of 2011, 18 brave tequila brands took up this challenge–

To appear on the first ever televised tequila reality show to share with the world their personal stories and to participate in a judged tasting competition to be named the Last Tequila Standing.

Rocky Road

As with most TV pilots and shows that are ahead of their time, Last Tequila Standing struggled to find a permanent network home.

“After a series of fits-and-starts, several failed business deals and cable company mergers that never happened, Last Tequila Standing was all but lost,” recounts Morales, a producer and one of the hosts of the show.

From the moment Season 1’s taping had wrapped, Morales worked tirelessly for months with the Executive Producers to try to fulfill the show’s original mission–

To educate and inform tequila aficionados worldwide in an entertaining fashion LTS_Cameraon the finer points of Mexico’s national spirit, as well as to help promote organic, artisanal, small batch, and boutique tequila Brands Of Promise(TM).

“But just a few years later, with the advent of streaming video made popular by services like Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix, the playing field has changed dramatically,” adds Lisa Pietsch, Tequila Aficionado Media’s COO in charge of social media marketing.  “Last Tequila Standing lends itself perfectly to our binge watching audience.”

The Line-Up

Participating tequila brands include…

Alquimia Organic Tequila, Alma de Agave, Crótalo, Cuestión, Don Pilar, Tributo, SilverCoin,  and many others.

In addition, Sal del Mar gourmet sea salt, Casa ZG sangrita mix, and Nature’s Agave syrup are also highlighted.

Guest Starring

Alquimia and Quinta de Gomez, organic tequilas.

Along with Tequila Aficionado Media’s CEO and Tequila Journalist, M.A. “Mike” Morales, Clayton J. Czczech guest judges on Last Tequila Standing.

Also on hand to impart his vast tasting expertise is industry expert Christopher Zarus, inventor of the only take home tequila tasting kit, TequilaRack, which will also be featured extensively.

A Global Event

“Since the taping of Season 1 of Last Tequila Standing, the Tequila Industry has aggressively pursued global expansion into countries like China, Russia, India, and Brazil,” explains Morales.

“Given that our audience is not only viewing Tequila Aficionado from these locations,” asserts Pietsch, “but all across Canada, the United States, Germany and Mexico, we can truly say that the airing of Last Tequila Standing will be a global event of epic proportions!”

Watch for new episodes of Last Tequila Standing premiering every day–for 45 days–beginning on National Tequila Day, July 24, 2015 at 11AM CDT.

Brand of Promise Nominee for Marketing Imagery

brands of promise, nominee
For 2015 Marketing Imagery, Malinalli Tequila

When we nominate brands of promise, it is usually during the tasting of the product, but being in the social media end of marketing, I’ve been so impressed with one brand’s latest marketing images that I had to take the initiative and nominate this one myself.

Everything about the images that Malinalli Tequila shares with the public says class.

malinalli

There are no red Solo cups, there are no scantily clad Tequila Girls.  These images say to consumers “We have a great product and don’t need to resort to cheap tactics for attention”.

2014-Rudolf-Ney-Photography

I’ve had the pleasure of tasting both the Malinalli Platinum and the Extra Anejo expressions and was duly impressed by both.  If I could find them here in San Antonio, I would spend my hard earned dollars on them despite the many wonderful samples that decorate the Tequila Aficionado offices.

malinalli3

For those brands who would like to build a rapport with the female consumer in her mid-40s, take a lesson from Malinalli.  Present class and taste and those with it will follow you passionately.

Well done, Malinalli Tequila.

You have just been nominated for the 2015 Brands of Promise Awards in Marketing Imagery.

Dulce Vida Extra Anejo Tequila Review

Mike and Alex taste and discuss the epic 5-year, extra anejo, from organic, overproof, Dulce Vida Tequila.

dulce vida, extra anejoVisit Dulce Vida Online hereBlog FacebookTwitterYouTube

Dulce Vida’s Extra Añejo is a celebratory Limited Edition rested for just over five years in single barrels from a respected Napa Valley winery. This unique craft approach is unmatched in the marketplace, creating a truly unique, complex extra añejo with the great characteristics expected of truly authentic, traditional Añejos. This Extra Añejo provides a soft nose, like a cognac or whiskey, and the full body of a 100 proof tequila.

This Limited Edition commemorates Dulce Vida’s five-year anniversary in the marketplace. Truly, an unrivaled fine sipping tequila.

Dulce Vida Tequilas sources its 100% organic agave from the Los Altos highlands in the Tequila region of Mexico. Because of the unique climatic characteristics and the air & soil, this area is well known for producing larger, fruitier agave, ideal for tequila. This organic agave ensures Dulce Vida makes tequila the way tequila has always tasted best: pure and powerful, free of any additives.

Dulce Vida produces the only 100° proof, 100% organic tequila in the world and has been nationally recognized as a brand rich in tequila heritage, earning top awards in numerous competitions. What sets Dulce Vida apart is a combination of product attributes, packaging, and taste profile – including Handcrafted Distillation, 100° Proof/Navy Strength, and Organics. 100° Proof provides Dulce Vida the purity, authenticity, and full agave taste that is the cornerstone of our brand. We make our tequila at 100° proof to fashion our spirit in an old-world means, cask-strength, the way spirits were enjoyed years ago.

The concept of sustainability was very strategic in the selection of our facility for tequila production.  The facility not only had to be capable of making a great product, with care and diligence meeting our specifications, but also had to meet requirements for organic production and overall measures of sustainability – being a kind partner to the environment and local community.  A complete recapture of all production waste is performed that yields a nutrient-rich soil supplement to the local farming community.  Furthermore, as a by-product of the waste collection & processing, methane gas is captured, creating an energy source utilized to power the facility.
