Open Bar #3: 2015 Brands of Promise Preview

2015 Brands of Promise Preview

Join us for our 3rd Open Bar show as we preview the 3rd Annual Brands of Promise Awards.

About the Brands of Promise AwardsSILVER 2013, awards

The Tequila Aficionado Brands of Promise Awards began in 2013 as our response to a secondary industry that has sprouted up around awards programs in the spirits industry.  In a very much pay-to-play world where large sums of money are involved in entering today’s contests and even more is required of winners in licensing fees to use the award logos on marketing, online and point of sale materials, we felt it was time that something change.

What Makes The Brands of Promise Different

BRONZE 2013, awards

We do not charge an entry fee to be considered for these awards, nor do we charge licensing fees for the winners to use the awards seal.  You take your award with you as soon as you’ve won it.  Winners simply download the high resolution images for their awards by clicking on the thumbnails here at  We encourage winners to use them on their websites, brochures, social media, shelf talkers, and point of sale materials.  We even provide a high resolution QR Code with the award seal on it that links directly to the award presentation.  (In case you haven’t noticed, each of our Sipping Off The Cuff reviews receives a QR code that brands are always welcome to use online and in their marketing and packaging materials which links directly to their Sipping Off The Cuff review.)

Are You in the Running for 2016?

If you haven’t sent us your samples yet, what are you waiting for?  Every tequila, mezcal, sotol and related product that we receive prior to August 15, 2016 will be considered for the 2016 Tequila Aficionado Brands of Promise Awards.  Isn’t it time the world knew about your product?  Email for instructions on how to send your samples in for review.  All it costs is your postage.

Open Bar Show #2 with JLP Craft Margaritas

JLP Craft MargaritasWelcome to our National Margarita Day episode of Tequila Aficionado’s weekly Open Bar show!

This week, our hosts M.A. “Mike” Morales and Lisa Pietsch had the pleasure of hosting Javier Martinez of JLP Craft Margaritas.

JLP Craft Margarita: 12 oz.can featuring JLP Blanco Tequila. 9% alcohol, non-carbonated.  Flavors: Golden Lime, Strawberry-Lime & Pomegranate.

See more about JLP Craft Margaritas on the Tequila Aficionado Wiki

We also discussed SlimRitas Margarita Mixes, Hornitos Lime Shot and Bat World Bat Sanctuary.

SlimRitas is made with fresh juices and a combination of natural zero calorie sweeteners. We eliminated the entire diet aftertaste by combining just the right sweeteners in just the right amounts. All this generates an authentic Tex-Mex margarita under 100 total calories. SlimRitas never uses citrus flavorings, high fructose corn syrup or Splenda.

Bat World Sanctuary is on the front line to end the mistreatment of bats.  Each year they rescue hundreds of bats who might otherwise die. Lifetime sanctuary is given to non-releasable bats, including those that are orphaned, injured, and retired from the exotic pet trade, zoos and research facilities. Bat World was founded in 1994 and is a 501c3 non-profit, accredited organization with both the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and the American Sanctuary Association. Donations allow them to continue their rescue efforts for bats.

What is Tequila Aficionado’s “Open Bar”

c5557f7cd6005f56af323daf8ff76ad1Happy Chinese New Year!

We’ve spent the last 16 years creating a website and Sipping Off The Cuff© shows for your enjoyment and we see a great 2016 Sipping Off The Cuff season lining up.  Last year, during our Quincinera, we introduced Last Tequila Standing© to our stable of fine content.  We have even more in store as we add new shows and personalities in 2016.

What is Open Bar and what the hell are we doing?

Don’t worry, Sipping Off The Cuff isn’t going anywhere.  We’re simply taking advantage of new media (as we like to do at Tequila Aficionado) and creating the first of it’s kind Tequila Talk Show.  We see this as a great opportunity to connect with our audience (you) to find out more about what you’re looking for and what you want to talk about when it comes to tequila.  We’re also looking for new personalities to join our team and see this as an excellent way to audition new talent (so if you’d like to work for tequila that you may not be able to get in your home state, be sure to tune in and take a seat with us for a chat.

Open Bar is a live show that we’ll record every Monday on at 7pm CST.  We hope you’ll join us for the live show, but if you miss it, you can always watch the replay on demand.

Here’s the replay of our first episode:

Our First Open Bar featured George Harris of FUBAR and Alien Tequilas

FUBAR Website:

Sipping off the Cuff with FUBAR:

FUBAR exudes with sweet notes of stone fruit, cantaloupe and exotic caramelized orange that are accented with a hint of refreshing cucumber and mint… smooth, lingering and juicy on the palate, this Silver Tequila is the purest expression of agave, rounded with flavors of savory lemon/lime, wild flowers and herbs… Delicious undertones of chamomile, fennel seeds and a touch of white pepper spice makes this Premium Tequila perfect for sipping, mixing or the ultimate shot.

Stay tuned for future episodes of Open Bar!
